My husband Chris grew up in Gympie on a Dairy farm, where his mum kept chooks and ducks. I lived my teenage and early adult life in Gympie, but didn't matter where we lived my mum had chooks.

Now that our family has grown and we have stopped moving towns, my husband reintroduced me to chooks. One day he turned up with 3 Columbian Wyandotte hens and 1 Columbian Rooster. Then he thought about the pen.

Our chooks have the chook hilton to live in thanks to my lovely father in law who came up for the weekend.

Now we are starting to breed up our stock and branch out to a few other breeds.

The chooks give us so much pleasure and to see them happily scratching around the yard and chasing insects.

They don't ask for much just food, water and shelter. In return we get eggs, gorgeous chickens and fertiliser. Can't ask for much more.
